10 Self-Reflection Questions to Boost Your Happiness and Fulfillment

In my previous blog, I briefly wrote about the necessity of self-reflection for self-improvement.

You often live on autopilot where you do the same things daily. If you have good habits, then this isn’t an issue. In fact, being on autopilot with good habits makes a healthy lifestyle easy. But when you are living on autopilot and don’t have good habits, then you have a problem on your hands.

This problem leads you to be unhappy without you even realizing it. The most unhappy people are often unaware that they are unhappy.

When you’re unhappy, life feels miserable. You have no joy, enthusiasm, or passion for life. It’s as if you walk around day to day like a zombie. Your daily actions feel purposeless.

But how do you know you’re unhappy if you don’t know that you’re unhappy?

I’m glad you asked.

Here are 10 questions to ask yourself that will increase your happiness and fulfillment in life:

1. Am I enjoying what I'm doing?

2. Does what I do give my life meaning?

3. Am I doing things that I look forward to each day?

4. Am I having fun?

5. Do I see myself doing this in 5 years? How about 10 years? Why or why not?

6. Do I feel fulfilled, or do I feel like I'm trying to fill a void?

7. What could I do to increase my happiness?

8. Why does what I do make me happy or unhappy?

9. Do I prioritize things that bring me happiness and fulfillment?

10. Do I ever feel a need to "escape" from life?

How to use these questions

These questions will give you a good idea of where you are at in your quest for happiness and fulfillment.

Make sure you answer each question honestly. If you don’t answer them honestly, then you’re not going to get an answer that’ll help you. You’ll waste your time.

Write down your answers. Circle any that surprised you or stuck out to you.

Determine what actions need to be taken. Then take them.

If you don’t know where to start, then brainstorm potential ideas that could lead you in the right direction.

Or look online for additional help.

Self-reflection transforms lives

Self-reflection is a difficult process. But it can transform your life in ways you won’t expect.

These questions are just a start. You could continue asking yourself questions to steer you towards a specific goal or issue you’re facing.

This can lead you to some reality-shattering insights. For instance, after using self-reflection, I discovered that my relationship with food was causing me pain and misery. Overeating junk food was fun and “stress-relieving” in the short term. But in the long term, it was destroying me.

Self-reflection should be customized to your needs. After all, you’re doing it for yourself.
