Winter Doesn’t Need to Suck. Here’s Why…
Winter is coming.
It's inevitable. You can't stop it from coming. Not even the Grinch can stop winter from coming. And he can’t stop Christmas from coming, either.
Winter is going to be here sooner than you wish. One day you’re wearing shorts and a t-shirt. The next day you’ve got 3 feet of snow in your driveway to clear out. The weather can be quite moody.
Complaining about the cold weather and snow isn't going to make it go away. It's only making the situation worse for you.
Complaining about winter is draining your mental health.
You're feeding your mind with negative thoughts. These negative thoughts make you grouchy and irritated. No one likes being around a grouchy and irritable person. They suck the life out of any conversation. And no one likes being this person, either. It’s a painful way to live.
It's not worth fighting against nature... You can't win this war. Nature always wins.
But you can move to a different area where there isn’t snow and cold weather. If you can’t move, then you’re out of luck. You’ll have to face the bitter truth that winter is coming.
What can you do instead of complaining?
Instead of complaining, try practicing some gratitude.
Be grateful for the beautiful snow. Look at the beautiful snow-filled landscape and snow-covered trees. Appreciate the beauty of the season. The holiday season is also during the winter…. That’s something to look forward to.
This may sound contrived. But if you hate the winter, then it would be in your best interest to try this mindset shift.
Do you really want to spend 3-5 months in a bad mood all the time?
Plus, winter can be just as fun as any other season. Each season brings its own benefits.
Go out and experience the wonders of nature by:
-Sledding
-Snowboarding
-Snowmobiling
-Skiing
-Ice skating
-Making a snowman
-Building an igloo or snow fort
-Having a snowball fight
These fun activities can only be done during the winter season. There are plenty of unique things to do and experience during the winter. You may think some of these activities are just for kids. But I assure you, adults can have plenty of fun playing in the snow too!
And don't forget about Christmas (if you celebrate).
Appreciate the Christmas tree, lights, movies, tv shows, music, and so on. You only get to experience these things once a year. Or if you celebrate Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, enjoy the festivities of your holiday.
It's a festive time of year!
So, let your mood reflect this celebratory time. Enjoy the traditions and experiences that the holiday season brings.
Wrapping up
Being mad about the weather is a pitiful way to live. Yet many people choose to live this way. They enjoy spring, summer, and fall. But as the weather starts to get colder, their mood gets worse and worse. By the time winter rolls around, these people are in full-on Grinch mode.
The point here is winter doesn't need to be depressing.
It can be an enjoyable time.
You just need to practice gratitude.
Appreciate the benefits of winter. And stop letting the weather control your happiness.
