How to Bring Balance to Your Life

The word “balance” is thrown around like a ragdoll. Everywhere you go online, you’ll hear gurus, influencers, etc. preach the gospel of balance. You “need” balance they say. Balance, balance, balance.

And I agree.

Balance is crucial to creating a healthy, thriving lifestyle. I’ve created a balanced lifestyle for myself. I’ve created a lifestyle where I work hard and play hard. I get to pursue my passions such as playing music, exploring nature, and weightlifting.

Balance is essential.

But what does “balance” mean? It’s a term often thrown around, but seldom defined. Definitions are important when you’re talking about concepts and ideas.

Today, let’s talk about what exactly is balance and how to bring balance to your life.

Let’s begin.

What is “balance?”

Balance is physical equilibrium.

What the heck does that mean? This means that balance is stability. Weight is being positioned in an even distribution to keep you upright.

This balance is in harmony with the Earth. Gravity is acting upon you, but you’re still standing and in control of yourself.

In a philosophical sense, balance is self-control.

Balance brings peace to your life.

Having control over yourself is crucial because it puts you in the driver’s seat of your life. You’re not beholden to what other people are telling you to do. You’re not required to spend all day working for a company that despises you and could replace you at any second with cheaper, more desperate workers.

Balance is the ability to do what you want when you want.

Freedom.

But there’s a catch. Yes, balance gives you freedom, but it’s not unregulated freedom. You still have tasks, habits, and work to accomplish regularly. But you don’t need to do them unless you force yourself to. You could take a day off if you wanted with little to no consequence.

How to create balance

Balance is always a fine line. It’s tricky to find the right balance that helps you create your ideal lifestyle.

To create balance, you need to decide how you want to live your life.

Ask yourself: What does my ideal lifestyle look like? What do I need to do to achieve this lifestyle?

Write down your answers in as much detail as possible. The more details you provide, the easier it will be for you to start creating this balance.

If you need to make changes to your current lifestyle to create balance, create a basic plan of how you’re going to make each necessary change. Or list out what changes you need to make and any steps you know you can take.

Create a schedule for yourself if you don’t have one already. Write your tasks and habits into your calendar. Block off the appropriate amount of time for each thing on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Prioritize your most important tasks. This could be your current work. It could be things you need to start doing to improve your lifestyle. Or it could be things that are the most important to you.

Then, fill in the rest of your schedule as you wish. If there’s something you want to be able to spend more time on, schedule more time for it.

If scheduling your life isn't something you want to do, I recommend you reconsider. Scheduling helps you maximize your time. This is crucial when you’re working towards balancing your life.

Once you’ve got the right balance, you can wean yourself off your schedule. So long as you complete what you need to do, it doesn’t matter when you do things. What matters is that they get done.

Wrapping up

Balance is your ideal lifestyle. It’s where your life is in harmony, providing you with ample time to work, play, spend time with family, build your character, etc.

Your version of a balanced life is going to be different than everyone else’s. This is normal. Focus on creating the lifestyle you desire.

Bringing balance to your life is one of the greatest things you can do for your happiness and well-being.
