There’s a lot to be pessimistic about. There’s always another disaster or tragedy highlighted on the news. Rising obesity, depression, divorce, and mental illness rates. This list could go on and on.

Life may even feel like it’s out to get you. You dislike your boss or job. You’re stressed out all the time, never getting relief from work. Maybe you’re having trouble finding a partner. Or maybe you feel lonely and want more friends, but don’t know where to look.

The point is, that there are an infinite number of reasons to be pessimistic.

But you don’t need to be pessimistic. This is harmful for your mental health. You’ll guarantee yourself a life of unhappiness and misery if you choose to be pessimistic.

So, let’s avoid this painful life.

Let’s talk about why you should be optimistic about your future:

1. Burnout isn't permanent

Burnout happens sometimes, especially if you've been working hard. But it's not a life sentence... You can defeat it.

Sometimes we need a bit of encouragement or a short break to keep going in life. Taking a break is an effective way to clear your mind and let your emotions simmer down.

One little change to your daily routine can reignite the spark of passion you had. Or reframing your mindset can help you find a renewed joy in the activities you loved before burning out.

There are many ways to defeat your burnout. Don’t give up.

2. The future doesn't exist yet

The future hasn't happened yet.

You get to choose how your future unfolds. Your actions today will guide you towards this future. Act accordingly with how you want your future to unfold for you.

Let your actions guide you to a future you look forward to living in.

3. You're building your empire

If you're working towards your goals, then your hard work is worth the effort. Don’t get discouraged by slow progress.

Progress is still progress.

What you do today compounds over time. If you keep at it, you'll be able to look back and see how much better your life has gotten. Lay one brick at a time.

4. You're alive

Don't forget to be grateful for the greatest gift you've ever received: Being born.

As long as you're alive, you can look forward to what the future may bring for you.

You get to experience this journey we call life. All the ups and downs. The milestones and celebrations. The accomplishments and wins. And the natural beauty of this place we call Earth.

Life is beautiful.

5. Modern living

We are living in the greatest time period for innovation.

The industrial and technological revolutions have made our lives easier, more convenient, comfortable, and enjoyable.

We have incredible modern amenities such as smartphones, which allow us to connect with anyone across the world at any time. We can see the work other people are producing. And we have the entirety of human knowledge and entertainment available 24/7.

These are good things... In moderation. So long as you don’t over-indulge in these things, modern technology enhances your life.

6. Personal development

Your character is improving daily if you’re pursuing personal development or self-improvement.

The more you work on yourself, the more likely you'll reach your potential best self.

Your best self can give great things to the people you love and the world around you. You could be the next Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, John Williams, and so on in your field.

Wrapping up

The future isn’t a dark, grim place like you may imagine.

You don’t know what the future holds yet. And neither do I.

Your future is shaped by your actions today. If you want a bright future, you need to work to build it.

Remember the power you have. You’re in control of your future.
